Ljubljana Restaurant week June 2021

On the 2nd June I had my second vaccination shot, so when restrictions on restaurants was lifted and Restaurant week finally arrived, I was so happy to go to 2 restaurants. The last time I went out to dinner was 15th October, going out for me is a form of entertainment and so I was really looking forward to what I see as the restart of my life.

First restaurant I chose was an Italian restaurant called Restavracija Mirje, the menu

Greetings from the kitchen: focaccia

Tuna tartare, marinated tomato, avocado, coriander, ginger

Shrimp risotto, spinach cream, hard Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

Sea bass fillet, white tomato sauce, Cherry tomato compote, fresh pasta stuffed with basil pesto

Dessert was Canneloni and sweet ravioli

The food was delicious, the bread freshly baked and hot. Waiters took care to explain each dish and also the paired wines. Flavours were on point for each dish. The Focaccia so simple but bursting with flavour and it was the perfect start for a wonderful meal. For the Tuna tartare, the avocado was the icecream on top, a different way to serve avocado. The risotto with the prawns/shrimp delicious, I liked the creative use of spinach. Adriatic Sea Bass, I dont think there is a better fish especially when it is perfectly cooked as this was. I discovered two new wines Pinela (Slovenian white grape) and also an Italian wine “Ben Ryé Passito di Pantelleria”, this is what I call Dessert in a bottle, a marvelous sticky sweet wine. It was great to sit outside and watch the other patrons and to simply enjoy good food and wine.

The second restaurant I went to was one I tried to go to last year but it was fully booked, its name is Monstera Bistro. Menu below

Greetings from the kitchen

Trout / stalk celery / apple / raspberry

Veal loin / broccoli / cherries / fresh herbs

Peach / verbena / yogurt / white chocolate

Kitchen greeting is the first photo, second photo was homemade butter with garlic and herbs that was delicious on the fresh bread. The trout wasn’t what I expected, it was however delicious. The veal was superb and something I had been looking forward to for awhile as I don’t cook meat at home for myself. Glad I finally got to visit this restaurant, and will definitely go back.
